Posting GPS trails and Images

I have become increasingly frustrated by the inability to easily add my photographs to my wikiloc walk traces and also the relative poor quality of the underlying maps that they use. So the search has been on for a system that easily combines my GPS traces with my Flickr photos and using preferably Google maps. It looks like Everytrail combines all these features. Here is the Oxfam walk that Sally and I did a few weeks ago.
This is the presentation from EveryTrail:-

2008 Oxfam Walk 13mile – Widget powered by: EveryTrail
and here is the wikiloc version:-

Wikiloc does the nice walking elevation profile and seems to have the bigger user base. However, Everytrail’s flickr integration wins me over.

Palm on the iPhone

Lets hope these guys at StyleTap can get their software working on a iPhone.

Would be so great if I could run all my old Treo applications on the iPhone. The Treo applications I miss the most are:-

Eatwatch for tracking your weight and exercise. Examples of mine are on Flickr

Blood pressure storing and displaying blood pressure and pulse readings
Metro Computing fastest way to places on undergrounds and public transport around the world.
Pocket Quicken Personal finance tool that syncs with Quicken on your desktop.
Screenshot captures the current mobile screen as a jpg image and syncs to your desktop.
Sudoku really neat application that creates sudoku puzzles.
UTS (UtrackSys.com) allows you to track anything that can be measured.

Also missing from the iPhone:-
Search capability of your contacts, notes, emails etc
Note taking and syncing.
Taking videos.
Recording mp3s.
Sending contacts in your address book by sms/bluetooth etc.

Will be interesting to see when I can do all of the above on the iPhone. In the mean time I can keep filling in the application feedback request form at Apple.

Thanks to Download squad for the heads up.

Art of the book

Firstly a disclaimer – Mia is my eldest sons wife 🙂 so this post might be biased a little 🙂

Mia does the most amazing bookbinding ever (this is NOT bookbinding as the normal person would imagine), in fact, it is more to do with sculpture as in 3D works of art. She produces the most original books, scrolls etc imaginable. They are exactly the type of objects that will become family heirlooms, so would be ideal as wedding, baby books for the sort of people who appreciate fine art and don’t mind spending the sort of money for a truly unique item. They would make an ideal special gift for that unique person in your life.

Mia has won numerous international exhibitions and had her work displayed at The British Library, London (2005 The Designer Bookbinders annual competition, 1st prize ) plus numerous other exhibitions

To see amazing examples of her work visit her new website. Leijonstedt – commission handmade books, custom-made anniversary gifts, wedding books and collector bookbindings

This is another example, the photo doesn’t really do it justice, of my sixtieth birthday present from Mia, Nick & Isla 🙂

iPhone testing week

First the poor iPhone slipped out of my pocket and disappeared into the loo (clean water :-)) It took about three days to recover, interestingly the last thing to return to work was the on/off switch!

Then today I went Good Friday skipping at Parkers Piece, Cambridge and accidentally gave the iPhone a shocking experience, check out the video below:-
